Choose the correct winter wheat variety
31/10/2014
Make sure you have chosen the correct winter wheat variety for early seeding

For early sown winter wheat to be used as catch crop, it must be established before September 7. You will need 5 ha of early sown winter wheat to replace 1 ha crop as obliged.
It is important to choose a winter wheat variety that combines moderate autumn growth and low growth point.
We have in the Nordic Seed established winter wheat at three different times: early, normal and late.
At time beeing, there is consiable variation, on variety level, between the 3 sowing times.
Mariboss and Torp keeps growing point lowest among tested varieties, and the growth rate in the fall is moderate.
We follow the varieties development throughout the growing season.
We recommend Mariboss and Torp to early sowing.
